Inspired by the butterfly cabinet I made for my senior thesis at Swarthmore College, I began to free my butterflies by sewing a small magnet to the stiffened fabric. In july of 2012, I began installing them around my hometown of Indianapolis, IN on metal object or structures in public areas. Because the butterflies are so portable, I was able to bring them with me whenever I traveled and I photographed the instillations in Philadelphia, Chicago, Berkeley, Kona, Hilo, Swarthmore, and Brooklyn. I have included a selection of these photos below as well as a stop-motion animation I created in 2013 as an ode to New York City. To view all of my instillations please check out my blog www.GuerillaSculpture.tumblr.com
After traveling with the butterflies to Istanbul, Turkey in the spring of 2014 I decided to start a global collaborative street art project with the butterlfies called "Swarm the World." For more about my process and the photos that were collected, please visit our tumblr site by clicking the below image, or reading about it in my "Book Projects" section.
