This is a continuation of my Swarm project to create ephemeral installations of hundreds of magnetic cuanotype butterflies. In the fall of 2014 I expanded the project to included 200 strangers who live all over the world. I created the website www.SwarmtheWorld.com to inform and gather followers and potential collaborators. By mid-summer 2014 I had received over 500 e-mail requests from potential collaborators. I mapped their locations and selected those with the best fit, and who seemed the most dedicated. In the end I have almost 200 people in 86 different countries. In order to pay for all the International shipping of the butterflies, I created a Kickstarter Campaign and successfully raised $10,000. You can learn more about the project by watching in fund-raising the video below.

After three years of personally coordinating the shipping from person-to-person and across continents, many of the butterflies have returned home and thousands of images have been collected. I curated the best photos and self-published a 8.5 in x 8.5in photobook. It is available through Kickstarter and after November 19, 2017 it will be available direct from my publisher.

An important element of the project is that the collaborators are working independently to install the butterflies around their home city or country following the guidelines that I laid out for them. They are also constantly uploading new photos of their creations. You can see them all at www.SwarmtheWorld.tumblr.com/
