Humpback Flukes: 2013-2014
Based in a challenge of scale, this piece is a life-sized teenage humpback whale. Unlike my previous natural specimens, the skin for this whale was made mostly with cyanotype prints from hand painted negatives that replicate the various textures of a whale's skin. The traditional photographic prints are from digital negatives of photographs of barnacles and water droplets. I started the piece in the summer of 2013 and finished it in the fall 2014.
